The Livermore Lions Club has selected their second, annual "Citizen of the Year." The Livermore Lions Club 2009 "Citizen of the Year" is Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty. Haggerty was recognized by the Lions for his leadership in transportation policy, mobilizing political support and drawing attention and funds to the chronically congested Tri-Valley I-580, I-680 and State Route 84 gateway highways into the Bay Area region. Currently, about $1 billion in improvements are planned or underway in the region. Haggerty was also recognized for his contributions in support of establishing a local host-impact fee for a landfill operation in Livermore, which the city has designated for the construction of a regional performing arts center. The Lions club is convinced that Supervisor Haggerty's leadership has made a significant difference in building our community. We salute our 2009 "Citizen of the Year", Supervisor Scott Haggerty. The award was presented at our 85th Charter Anniversary Dinner at Poppy Ridge Golf Course on September 12, 2009 by Lion past president Mayor Dr. Marshall Kamena.
The Livermore Lions Club 2008 Citizen of the Year was Livermore Mayor Dr. Marshall Kamena. Lion Mayor Marshall has compiled an astonishing record of leadership service to the Livermore community over the past 35 years. In 1975 Lion Mayor Marshall served as president of the Livermore Lions Club and in the following year he served as president of the Livermore Chamber of Commerce. Since then he has served in leadership roles on nearly every board, commission, agency, and council in the Livermore area, including serving 3 terms as mayor. The Lions club is convinced that Lion Mayor Marshall's leadership has had a great deal of positive influence in building our community. We salute our 2008 "Citizen of the Year", Mayor Dr. Marshall Kamena. The award was presented at our New Member Induction Dinner at Ruby Hill on Dec. 10, 2008 by three time past Lion president Andy Yuan.
